Key points to know when writing letters to overseas voters
Earlier this year, we wrote letters to thousands of U.S. voters living abroad, asking them to request their overseas ballots in time to vote. Now, we're launching another letter campaign to encourage these under-contacted voters to return their ballots ahead of this year's critical elections in November.
Why are we writing to U.S. voters living abroad?
There are millions of voters living abroad who can make a real difference in elections, but they receive almost no election outreach, and as a result, they vote at very low rates. That's why our partner organization, the Center for U.S. Voters Abroad, has been able to achieve very strong results by contacting these voters. We partnered with the Center earlier this year to reach overseas voters, and are excited to do so again now.
Important points about this campaign
This campaign has a rolling mail date – please make sure to prepare and send your Voters Abroad letters by October 1. Other Vote Forward letter campaigns may have different mailing instructions, so be sure to keep your Voters Abroad letters separate from any other letters you may have prepared.
These letters require international postage, which currently costs $1.65 per Forever stamp. As these are Political letters, we cannot offer stamp support for this campaign.
Unlike our previous Voters Abroad letter campaign, these letters do not require any extra printing. You can simply print your letter bundle and enclose one letter template per envelope, just like a standard Vote Forward letter campaign.
Please note that international mailing addresses can look very different from the domestic U.S. addresses you may be used to seeing. We conduct extensive data cleaning before making letters available to you, but if you do see a voter address that you believe needs to be fixed, please contact us at help@votefwd.org.
